Getting set up

Do I need Shopify?

No. Shopify is the quickest, with kitlab added to your theme and add to cart built in. WooCommerce has the kitlab plugin, which does the same, and BigCommerce, Magento, Wix and Neto each have their own setup in the admin with add to cart. Any other website embeds the designer with one script tag and takes orders as quote requests.

Is there a setup fee?

Not if you set it up yourself, and we've made that easy on purpose: it takes a few buttons in your admin and no technical knowledge, so a premium kit designer is within reach of a small business just starting out. Your plan is the only cost. On Premier and up you can also have your own AI do it for you: connect Claude, or another AI assistant, to your admin with our connector and ask it to set things up. If you'd like us to do it for you, we'll quote it first. That doesn't mean we stop at simple: for more advanced setups we build custom systems, and the Enterprise plan connects kitlab to your own systems through our API.

Can I use my AI assistant with kitlab?

Yes, on Premier and up, or as an add-on on Signature. Connect Claude, or any AI assistant that takes MCP connectors, to your kitlab admin and tell it what you want in plain words: your designer's look, products and prices, garments, print settings, and on plans with Studio mode, new designs. Everything it changes goes into your draft, and nothing goes live until you publish it. It never sees your orders, customers or billing, and you can disconnect it any time in Settings > Connected AI. In Claude, look for kitlab in the connector directory, or add it as a custom connector at api.getkitlab.com/mcp.

We don't have 3D models or designs. Can we still use kitlab?

Yes. Buy one of our ready-made 3D models in your admin and its designs from our library come with it, so you can be selling custom kits in days. Or have our 3D modeller make models of your own garments.

What comes in the design library?

750+ design templates, drawn for our 3D models, among them 120 football jerseys in ten groups, from classic stripes and hoops to fades, camo and panels, each with matching shorts, 12 esports jerseys for gaming teams, and 120 basketball jerseys in the same groups with matching shorts. Each basketball design letters the team's name across the front in its own style, from the name your customer types. Our baseball jersey takes the football designs that suit a button front, and 12 of its own with piping down the placket, pinstripes and stripes. On the Premier plan and above, every client on one of our models gets every design drawn for it, free to use with kitlab. On Signature, each sport comes with the 18 designs that suit it best, picked by us, a plain one among them. Customers recolour each design in the designer. We add new designs every so often, so you can bring out a fresh range each season, and you can download any design, change it in Illustrator and upload it back.

Can it use our own 3D models and designs?

Yes. Bring them in from the admin and they work straight away, so print files come out on your own artboards. If you want, we move them in for you.

Is kitlab only for sportswear?

No. It works for anything you put a logo on, printed merch and heat-press transfers included: the customer picks the colour and puts their logo where it goes, and the order comes with their logo file and a picture of the front and back, so there's no print file to make. Every customer sees their own mockup in 3D before they order.

Our last kit designer made adding and changing products hard. Is kitlab different?

That's what kitlab's admin was built around, and setting up a garment is all visual. You start with the 3D model and see only the steps that model needs. To map its colours, the flat design and the 3D model sit side by side: click the parts that should change together, like the body and the sleeves, and name each part the way your customers will see it in the designer. Each product's price, add-ons and alternate kits are set in one place, and Save puts your changes live without touching the rest of your designer.

We already use another 3D kit builder. Can we switch?

Yes. Pick our 3D models of the same garments and bring your old design templates across from your admin. kitlab fits them onto the new garment's layout, so you don't redraw them.

Customers and orders

What do we get with each order?

The customer's choices, front and back previews, the logos they uploaded and a print file for every player with their name and number, sized to fit them. Files come as SVG, PDF (RGB or CMYK), PNG or TIFF, all in one zip per order, graded for each size or put on your printer's own pattern pieces. Set them up to your printer's spec in the admin: resolution, colour profile, bleed, mirroring, shrinkage, cut lines and roll width.

Can orders go straight into our CRM?

Yes, as an extra. Each order and quote request goes into your CRM with the customer and what they ordered, and stays up to date as the order moves along. We connect yours and set it up to match how you use it, for a one-time setup fee. Every CRM and every business is set up differently, so we quote it first: ask for it on your admin's Billing page.

Can customers ask for a design of their own?

Yes. They send a request from any page of your site, or from the designer with their kit attached as a starting point. With Studio mode (on the Studio Pro plan and above, or added to Signature), your designer finishes it in Studio and sends a proof the customer approves in 3D.

What's a Design Room?

There are two. A team Design Room comes with the Premier plan and above, or as an add-on on Signature: a team shares a kit, remixes it, votes and orders together. A Studio Design Room comes with Studio mode, on the Studio Pro plan and above or as an add-on: your designer sends the customer proofs to look at in 3D. They tag comments right on the kit, ask for changes or approve it, with no limit on proofs.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, and that's where most of your customers will use it: in the middle of 2026, 71% of the world's online retail orders were placed on a phone (Statista). A designer that's hard to use on a phone loses them: if they can't finish their kit, they leave without ordering, often for a competitor whose site works. kitlab's designer fits the space it's given, puts its options in a sheet on phones, can open full screen from a button on your product page and keeps what they type above the keyboard. Your admin works on a phone too.

Will it slow down our store?

The designer runs in its own frame from our servers and only loads on the page you put it on, so the rest of your store is untouched.

Plans and your team

What does kitlab build on our store?

It depends on your plan. On Signature, the designer sits on a page of your store and sells every kit from there. On Premier, kitlab lists every kit as a product on your store, at your prices and sizes, with the designer on its page, and you can add a page of its own for any design you want to show off. On Studio Pro, kitlab builds the whole store: a product page for every design in every cut, sorted into sport collections with Style, Sleeves and Design filters. Both work on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and Neto. Change a price or add a design and every page follows.

How many product pages can Studio Pro make?

Up to 2,500 per store and 250 per product. A soccer kit with 25 designs, on eight jersey cuts with its shorts and socks, comes to about 300 pages, so a store with a few sports lands well under it.

Who on our team can use the admin?

Each plan includes a number of staff logins, and each one gets a role. Owners have full access, including billing and keys. Designers set up the designer and bring in new garments, with Studio on the Studio Pro plan and above or as an add-on. Production sees orders, designs and print files, and those logins are free: they don’t count toward your plan’s staff logins. With the CRM integration you also get free Support logins, for whoever checks orders and their CRM syncs.

Can we change things after launch?

Any time. Most changes you make yourself in the admin and publish in a click. We handle bigger ones for you, and with Studio your designer can put new artwork on the kit themselves.

Can we add Studio without moving up a plan?

Yes. On Signature or Premier, add Studio mode with proof rooms or Design together on its own, a month at a time. Signature can also add Design Rooms, and saved kits so customers can sign in and have their kits on every device. If you find you want most of them, Premier or Studio Pro has them, with more staff logins, for less.

Can we change your designs?

On the Premier plan and above, yes. Download any of our design templates as an SVG, change it in Illustrator with the kitlab panel and send it back as your own. What you make from them is for use with kitlab only. On Signature you use each sport’s 18 designs as they are.

Do we have to sign a contract?

Only if you want to save. Every plan is month to month: leave whenever you like with 30 days’ notice. Or take a 12-month contract and pay 10% less, still monthly. It renews for another year unless you switch renewal off in your admin at least 30 days before it ends.

What currency are the prices in?

kitlab's plans are in Australian dollars. The prices your customers see on your store stay in your store's own currency.
